A leading independent IT infrastructure and services consultancy is seeking a Unix System Administrator (Hybrid Working) for a large financial institution based in the city, initially on a 4 month contract basis, within IR35.

Responsibilities

As a dynamic self-starter you will primarily leverage your skills to manage and support the bank’s global estate of 80K Unix virtual and bare metal OS instances.

Acting as a Unix subject matter expert, you will engage our business clients by responding to 3rd line escalations and/or participating in incident bridge calls to triage, analyse and ultimately restore service outages. will do

You will be passionate about what you do and enjoy diving deep into root cause analysis to determine if a process or policy needs to be changed or enhanced.

Being an excellent communicator, you will regularly collaborate with your global counterparts on technology initiatives that not only deliver business value but also achieve the Bank’s goals and objectives.

To develop a sustainable pace that meets changing needs, participation in shift rotas that target the early, middle or later parts of the day will be required.

UNIX systems consulting, support and administration

• Incident testing, investigation and recovery
• Deep dive problem root analysis and known fault remediation plan
• Participate in bridge line triage calls and facilitate management updates.
• Drive project delivery and logistics
• Create reports of management activities
• Drive project delivery and logistics
• Implement policy, standards and procedures.
• Disaster failover, recovery and isolation testing
• Coordination of event resolution with offshore peer teams
• Facilitate hot-headed solutions to issues affecting global solar circulation as part of follow-up.
• Vulnerability and Configuration Drift Management
• Facilitate audit reviews.
• Work against predetermined work methods with defined scope.
• Integrate change management where applicable.

Experience required.

• Excellent administration / troubleshooting skills for a financial institution (RHEL 6,7,8 / Solaris 10)
• Expert in deploying virtualized Linux deployments on ESX layer
• Bare Metal Red Hat Clustering Technologies – RHCS/PaceMaker
• Veritas Infoscale – File System / Volume Manager / Cluster
• Networking topology (TCP/IP stack/DHCP/bonding/teaming/multipathing)
• Domain Name System
• Knowledge of shell scripting
• Understanding of SAN/NAS storage principles from the OS layer
• Infrastructure support and troubleshooting of Oracle/HP/IBM/Dell hardware
• Authentication Services – Vintella / SSSD
• ITIL Framework (Incident/Problem/Known Error/Change) within BMC Remedy

• Packet Capture / Deep Dive Analysis – Wireshark
• Knowledge of Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) from the Linux OS layer
• Familiarity with Alternative Timekeeping Technologies – FSMLabs TimeKeeper
