Ordnance Survey is looking for a Software Engineer – Java to join our team. We at OS embrace a hybrid working model and believe there is no one size fits all approach to how we work. We have a fanciful HQ in Southampton, Hampshire, where you will spend two days a month, and the rest is a personal choice whether you work from home, in one of our regional offices or spend most of your time at OSHQ. Ordnance Survey can also consider offering fully remote contracts in appropriate circumstances. You can join us on a full-time, permanent basis, and in return, you will regards with a competitive salary of up to £42,840 per annum.

We are looking for a commercially experienced Software Engineer – Java to join our project team with a strong track record of delivering customer requirements with speed and high quality. With a strong background in providing solutions, your knowledge will include a wide variety of technologies such as Java (Spring Boot, Hibernate, Jackson etc.), Postgresql, Cloud Services (Azure/AWS) and SQL. Experience with deployment, microservices, debugging, testing, scaling and monitoring scalable applications is expected.
The role will involve daily interaction with stakeholders and team members. Code should be written using best practices to ensure it is clean and testable. You will need to be thoroughly familiar with Agile delivery methodologies and demonstrate a track record of delivering in such an environment
Responsibilities As a Java Developer:
Conducting code inspections and peer reviews to provide code quality assurance against business requirements
Maintain and improve the level and currency of personal and technical skills to provide appropriate support to the business.
Providing fully qualified software development and configuration in your area of expertise
Understanding and advocating for best practices and patterns and helping to improve delivery
It ensures that software is secure and well-tested.
Identifying problems in support and operation and production of the services you create
What we are looking for in our Software Engineer – Java:
Ability to provide fully qualified software development and configuration in your area of expertise
Experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs
Understanding and advocating for best practices and models to help improve capacity and delivery.
Ability to ensure the software is secure and thoroughly tested.
Ability to support and operate the services you build and identify problems in production
Proven expertise in software configuration and engineering
Knowledge of modern engineering best practices such as TDD, BDD and automated testing
Proven track record in iterative and incremental development
Excellent track record in problem solving and selection of technical solutions and applications
Knowledge of ESRI technology and Kubernetes is essential.
