The role of Software Developer:
This role (Software Developer in England) is part of the Student Systems, IT Services and LUSI (Loughborough University Student Information) modernization program. Loughborough develops and maintains its student information system. This is an chance to help shape this unique system and work with colleagues to provide the best student experience.
About your team:
The Student Information Systems team comprises 16 IT professionals who provide business analysis, software development, application support, testing and systems management for various Student Information IT systems to managers and professionals across the University. Work together with people.
Job Purpose:
Performs business analysis, package implementation, software development and user support tasks as assigned, following agreed standards and guidelines, and typically as part of a team, to meet the University’s corporate information system requirements. The initial focus of this work will be the development and support of student information systems.
Responsibilities of Software Developer:
Join software development, package acquisition and implementation projects and programs to deliver effective and efficient business solutions.
They are performing the necessary maintenance and enhancement of corporate information systems, including related design and user documentation, as follow to ensure their effectiveness, quality, security and integrity.
To participate in testing corporate information systems, including developing and executing test plans and automated testing.
Advise, support and train staff in using corporate information systems to help them solve problems and use the system to the best effect.
To keep the development of Corporate Information Systems consistent and integrated with the rest of the University’s Corporate Information Systems.
Liaising with University staff, suppliers, the HE sector and government bodies to ensure an efficient and effective service is always available to internal and external University stakeholders.
Participate in the documentation, review, revision and development of business processes to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of these processes.
To apply for this role, you must have the following skills, knowledge and experience:
Experience developing corporate applications in an enterprise database development environment such as Oracle, SQL Server, SQL
Experience working with complex business information systems and practices, and information systems standards and procedures
Experience working with large corporate information systems.
Recent practical technical skills in developing and supporting complex and mission-critical corporate database applications that support large and diverse user populations.
Ability to present information professionally and appropriate for its intended audience
Required Quality:
Experience working in higher education or similar organization.
Experience working in an environment using an agile application or other development methods.
Proven expertise in developing applications for web-based environments, such as Oracle Apex, PHP/Perl
Track record of web development using web services approaches, such as RESTful APIs and SOAP, JSON and XML.
Awareness of IT security issues and management practices, such as authentication, authorization and best practices for developing systems
