Paymentology’s Commercial Team is seeking a Senior Compliance & Data Protection Manager who values “Making It Right,” “Making It Easy,” and “Making it Happen” as we work together remotely. Our ideal candidate has a deep understanding and passion for compliance and data protection within the context of Paymentology’s business and the industry we operate in. We require someone with extensive global knowledge and the ability to apply it meaningfully to our business without excessive disruption. This role requires a focus on product and operations and the willingness to learn and collaborate with other teams to acquire comprehensive knowledge of our payment platforms and other systems.
It is essential to apply compliance and data protection knowledge to our products in a client-oriented way while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The Senior Manager will guide our business through the compliance and data protection landscape to promote compliant growth of our business and products. The candidate will also have to communicate effectively with formal compliance counterparts in banks and other financial institutions to provide comfort that we have our compliance in order.

- Develop and maintain a compliance framework to meet business needs.
- Collaborate with partner banks on compliance-related issues.
- Interpret and find solutions to meet both internal and external compliance and data protection requirements.
- Train staff on compliance and data protection issues and the reasons behind them.
- Research regulatory requirements in various regions and update internal teams.
- Manage and drive compliance audits conducted by external parties.
- Conduct investigations to identify and address any potential breaches of compliance and data protection requirements.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with laws, regulations, and rules by managing Anti-Money Laundering (AML), sanctions screening, Know Your Customer (KYC), and due diligence checks according to Paymentology’s risk tolerance level.
- Introduce new systems and processes to simplify and improve ongoing compliance and data protection efforts.
- Act as a main player of contact for the business to provide guidance and assistance in complying with compliance and data protection frameworks, processes, controls, and industry best practices.
- Own completion and ownership of any compliance-related due diligence questionnaires and RFPs.
- Draft and review policies related to compliance and data protection.
- Create and execute monitoring strategies to evaluate the effectiveness of compliance controls, and support the development and improvement of procedures and controls.
- Conduct data protection impact assessments.
- Assess and manage subcontractors added to the list of sub-processors.
- Draft, roll out, and ensure compliance with a data retention policy.
- Respond to data subject access requests.
- Draft and review data protection agreements and clauses.
What it takes to succeed
To be considered for the Senior Compliance & Data Protection Manager role, you should have a minimum of 5 years experience in a compliance-focused role, preferably within a fintech or challenger bank. You must possess a strong understanding of data protection compliance, with a track record of effectively managing compliance issues.
As an effective Senior Compliance & Data Protection Manager mainly as a communicator, you should have excellent interpersonal skills and be comfortable interacting with external stakeholders and internal teams.

You should be able to balance the needs of the business with external regulatory requirements while maintaining a professional and personable demeanor. A solid understanding of the legal framework governing banks and financial institutions is essential, and you should be open to learning and adapting as needed.
To grow in this role, as a Senior Compliance & Data Protection Manager you must be able to work well under pressure, prioritize competing demands, and take ownership of your work to meet tight deadlines. Knowledge of relevant regulations such as UK-GDPR, GDPR, POPI, FCA, EBA, and FIC is required. A relevant postgraduate degree is preferred, with a legal background being an added advantage.
