About our team:
Target uses software products that we built to perform enterprise-wide sales promotions. All 2,000 Target stores have com and in them. Users can use our products to plan, create and roll out promotion strategies, as well as evaluate their impact on sales, inventory, and the experience of our customers. We make sprints, have daily meetings and frequent design sessions with our product owners, adhere to test-driven development on both user-interface and backend technologies, deploy to production at the end of each sprint, and leverage continuous integration and deployment. Our engineers are eager to learn from one another and contribute to the team. Our engineers are involved in the design and development of databases, Spring Boot Java applications, and React Javascript front-end applications. The latest tools for Agile development, test-driven development, CI/CD, and containerization are some of the technologies we use.
Duties as Remote Senior Engineer
As a remote senior engineer, you support the product by being part of the engineering team. You help develop and understand the application architecture. Concrete design can influence the implementation of abstract architecture. You know how to apply the appropriate software engineering patterns to build systems. You are an expert in programming and can use it to develop the product. You can influence other engineers by giving feedback on software designs and implementation. You have good problem-solving skills that can help the team. You can eliminate repeat occurrences with your expertise.

As a Sr. Engineer, you’ll apply and maintain knowledge of current and emerging technologies within the engineering domain.
- Evaluate new technology and participate in decision-making, considering technology’s viability within the technical environment, its maintainability, and its cost of ownership.
- Create and implement a project plan that incorporates the activities required to create an innovative solution for a customer challenge.This means leading the design, lifecycle management, and total cost of ownership of the services.
- Lead design and architecture discussions with an understanding of process flow and system diagrams to enable design decisions.
- Actively participate in routine and non-routine construction, automation, and implementation activities. Ensure that successful implementation with architectural and operational requirements are met.
- Developing your skills in technical oversight will take you far and allow you to coach your staff.
- In addition to being a good problem solver, you’ll have to play an essential role in your company’s overall health and wellbeing. If a disaster strikes, you’ll be part of the response team.
- Data quality must be incorporated throughout the data collection, processing, storage, and operational usage.
Requirements
- 4-year degree or equivalent experience
- 5-7 years of software development experience
- Experienced in full stack (U.I. and backend) product development
- Experienced in JVM languages and JavaScript frameworks, ReactJS experience is a plus
- Must Demonstrate strong efficiency in core development platforms within own domain
- Build new testing methods and resolves routine and non-routine technical issues with minimal assistance
- Must build strong commitment within the team to support team priorities
- Communicates with Agile concepts to partners within the product team
- Demonstrates understanding of the impact of own work on the team and guests
- Perform and show expertise in analysis and optimization of systems capacity, performance, and operational health
- Influences and applies data standards, policies, and procedures
- Maintains technical knowledge in areas of expertise
- Stays aware current with new and evolving technologies via formal training and self-directed education
This position may be considered for a Full-Time Remote or Hybrid work arrangement based on Target’s needs.
A hybrid work arrangement means the team members will have remote and local roles in a Target store.
Work Remotely means the team member works full-time from home or an alternate location that’s not a Target location and does not have a desk at their primary H.Q. work location. They may travel to H.Q. up to four times a year. Only for those in the states of C.O., CT, or N.V.
