Upright Labs is looking for an Engineering Manager to join our Product Team and lead our agile team in providing multi-channel inventory management for second-hand retail.
The role involves overseeing sprint planning and execution while contributing code as needed.
Our software helps second-hand retailers sell online by streamlining inventory management. Our platform processes thousands of items monthly and has facilitated millions in sales for our clients, including reputable organizations such as Goodwill and Salvation Army.
Your contribution as an Engineering Manager will directly impact the success of our clients’ e-commerce operations.
About the Product Team

About the role
As the Engineering Manager, your primary responsibility at Upright Labs will be to effectively communicate the product priorities our VP of Engineering set and translate them into actionable projects that can be completed within the sprint cycle.
You will work closely with other engineers to assess the impact of technical debt and strike a balance between addressing it and implementing new features.
Apart from regularly contributing code to stay up-to-date with the codebase (typically around 15% of your time), you will also collaborate with your team members to remove roadblocks and support their professional growth.
Your leadership and guidance will be crucial in ensuring that each team member can perform at their best and contribute towards the overall success of our product.
Some more responsibilities include:
- The candidate Led and mentored engineers on the team, conducting regular one-on-ones to provide guidance and support.
- Coordinate the release of our mobile app, which complements our flagship web app, to ensure a smooth and timely rollout.
- Assist with managing overall team operations, collaborating with colleagues to improve workflows, and identifying opportunities for process optimization.
- Foster a positive and collaborative team culture that empowers individuals to do their best work and encourages creativity and innovation as a Engineering Manager.

About You
We want the listed qualifications for our ideal candidate for the Engineering Manager role at Upright Labs:
- We are based in the US or Canada and can work between PT and ET time zones.
- Possesses 2-5 years of full-stack engineering experience and 1-3 years of management experience.
- Has strong opinions but is open to change and willing to listen to others’ perspectives.
- We are willing to learn our platform’s intricacies but can also step back to manage and lead the team.
- We have a proven track record of project management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially in a remote work environment.
- Thrives in a collaborative and feedback-driven work environment.
