JOB DESCRIPTION

The successful applicant will be a senior member of the SoGE IT team, working closely with the Head of IT and Senior Systems Administrators as Deputy Head of IT to ensure all aspects of IT are well managed. You will provide third-line support to essential services. This will include engagement with department staff at all levels, liaison with a wide range of third-party suppliers, and other key contacts within the College and beyond.

Deputy Head of IT 

Responsibilities as Deputy Head of IT: 

As a Deputy Head of IT Key responsibilities include design, implementation, monitoring, and support of complex services. The post holder will also contribute to the management of or backfill projects that the SoGE IT team is managing or managing. You will be expected to act as an imperative leader, developing a well-managed platform, including configuration management, and promoting the use of good practices across the team, including systems monitoring.

You will be expected to deputize for the Head of IT if they are not available to cover the full range of team deliverables- you will act as a manager of the Help Desk team both will provide technical expertise as well as help them. In managing the workload as well as career development and ensuring the help desk functions are efficient.

Skills and Experience Required for Deputy Head of IT:

For Deputy Head of IT You should have the knowledge, intellectual capacity, reasoning, and analytical skills equivalent to a graduate and proven experience of the skills required to manage a small team of staff. A clear knowledge of current technologies is essential to support configuration management and system monitoring. You will have a good knowledge of desktop and server computing technologies, including knowledge of Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Experience designing, implementing, and managing IT systems with knowledge of techniques to ensure scalability, resilience, and disaster recovery is essential. Excellent communication skills, including the presentation of complex technical ideas and the preparation of accurately written documents, are essential.

Salary (£):

£43,414 – £51,805 p.a. (with a discretionary cap of up to £56,592 p.a.). A market pay supplement of up to £60,000 of salary may be payable to exceptional candidates.
