Ordnance Survey is looking for a Data Engineer in Nursling (Geospatial) to join our team. At OS, we believe that work is what you do, not where you go. We adopt a hybrid working model where we think the choice is up to the individual whether they work from our beautiful offices in Southampton or London or from home. You have to join us on a full-time, permanent basis, and in return, we will give you a competitive salary of £40,750 – £52,735 per annum.

We have a chance for a highly motivated Data Engineer to join Ordnance Survey’s Data Capture and Engineering team to develop our next-generation geospatial data.
Using big data technologies (primarily Databricks and Apache Spark implementations), you will develop, support and maintain automated processes that enrich and transform large-scale Ordnance Survey data.
Working in a forward-thinking agile environment, this role will challenge you to develop scalable and reliable solutions to generate high-quality data that will form part of Ordnance Survey’s data products. You will have a logical approach to analyzing and interpreting requirements, applying your knowledge and solving complex problems to manage geospatial data capture effectively.
Your team will look to you for technical coaching and guidance as you work together to develop and deliver logical, robust, efficient, performant, maintainable and supportable processes.
What we look for in our Data developer:
As a Data Engineer in Nursling you have Experience working with complex geographic data and a logical approach to problem-solving
Knowledge of data structures and experience querying databases
Software engineering experience using one or more languages (such as Scala or Python).
Track record in manufacturing and supplying production-ready components
Good knowledge of testing methods and best practices
Experience in providing technical coaching and mentoring.
Ability to advocate for software engineering industry best practice
Experience articulating detailed explanations and translating them into simple solutions
Apache Spark/Data bricks experience (required)
Experience working in Microsoft Azure (required)
