BACKEND ENGINEER-REMOTE JOB

As a Backend Engineer, the specialization you will focus primarily on is making the customer portal and operating a large number of GitLab environments through automating all. This is the main difference between other Backend Engineer roles in Infrastructure, as automation tasks of many GitLab environments and programming tasks across many environments will occupy your day-to-day.

REQUIREMENTS-BACKEND ENGINEER

• As a Backend engineer, you must have strong programming skills with Ruby and Ruby on Rails. 
• Excellent experience with profiling and metrics analysis
• Superb experience with observability tools, including metrics, structured logging and distributed tracing
• A background in DevOps, exposure to Linux, GCP/AWS, Ansible, Terraform
• Good knowledge of SQL and PostgreSQL
•  Experience regularly interacting with customers and focusing on resolving their requests with a sense of urgency.
• Have experience in collaborating and communicating asynchronously
• Document all the things, so you don’t need to learn the same thing twice
• Have an enthusiastic, go-for-it attitude.
• Decisive attitude

BONUS POINTS IF YOU HAVE

• A background in working with Kubernetes APIs is required.
• You’ve built high-scale systems with Kafka and Zookeeper.
• You’ve built high-scale APIs
• You have worked on critical execution featuring multi-threading, async IO, advanced scheduling and resource management.

PROJECT YOU COULD WORK ON

• You must make fault-tolerant, horizontally scalable solutions to enable customers to operate their GitLab environments.
• Must work on the GitLab core projects such as GitLab Rails, GitLab Workhorse, Italy, etc.
• Work on projects that create deployment packages of GitLab, such as GitLab Helm Chart.
• Work on the GitLab observability stack
• Capable of interacting with various cloud provider systems (e.g. GCP, AWS)
